Regular Season Round 5: Besiktas - Trabzonspor 87-69

Date: November 9, 2013
Bottom-ranked Trabzonspor (0-5) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 87-69 loss to twelfth ranked Besiktas (2-3) in Istanbul. The game was mostly controlled by Besiktas. Trabzonspor was better in fourth quarter 21-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. 24 personal fouls committed by Trabzonspor helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American point guard Doron Perkins (188-83, college: Santa Clara) nailed 20 points and 8 assists (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) for the winning side and his fellow American import guard Chris Lofton (188-86, college: Tennessee) accounted for 22 points. Four Besiktas players scored in double figures. Besiktas' coach Ahmet Kandemir used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. point guard Can Korkmaz (187-92, agency: Beo Basket) came up with 17 points and 5 assists and international guard Can Mutaf (190-91) added 17 points respectively for Trabzonspor in the defeat. Besiktas moved-up to ninth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Newly promoted Trabzonspor still closes the standings with five games lost. Besiktas' next round opponent will be higher ranked Usak (#7) on the road and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Trabzonspor will play against Aliaga (#13) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
