Regular Season Round 5: Khimik - Halychyna 84-62

Date: November 9, 2013
Very expected game when 7th ranked Halychyna (2-3) was smashed by third ranked Khimik (4-1) in Yuzhny 84-62 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 3 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 1-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 84-62. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Khimik made 8 blocks. American guard Matt Gatens (195-89, college: Iowa) orchestrated the victory by scoring 17 points and 4 assists. His fellow American import point guard Paul Delaney (188-86, college: UAB) contributed with 14 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Serbian power forward Vladan Vukosavljevic (206-84, agency: Beo Basket) answered with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds and the former international forward Oleksandr Kolchenko (194-88, agency: Beo Basket) added 14 points in the effort for Halychyna. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Khimik moved-up to second place, which they share with Hoverla. Loser Halychyna dropped to the eighth position with three games lost. Khimik will face Ferro-ZNTU (#5) in Zaporozhye in the next round.
