Regular Season Round 9: Cuxhaven - Magdeburg 80-90

There was a small surprise when fifteenth ranked Magdeburg (2-6) won against on the road 12th ranked Cuxhaven BasCats (2-6) 90-80 on Saturday. The guests trailed by 9 points after first quarter, but they rallied back and won the game by 10 points. Magdeburg forced 23 Cuxhaven BasCats turnovers. It was a good game for Uruguayan-Czech forward Martin Volf (202-80) who led his team to a victory with 24 points and 5 rebounds. Swingman Lars Meyer (189-89) contributed with 14 points and 4 steals for the winners. Magdeburg's coach Dimitris Polychroniadis used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. American point guard Jay-R Strowbridge (183-88, college: Oregon, agency: IBS) answered with 25 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists and Nigerian-American forward P.J. Alawoya (203-88, college: McNeese St.) added 15 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Cuxhaven BasCats. Five Magdeburg and four Cuxhaven BasCats players scored in double figures. Magdeburg moved-up to thirteenth place, which they share with Cuxhaven. Magdeburg will face higher ranked Giessen 46ers (#6) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
