Regular Season Round 5: Anadolu Efes - Usak 79-71

Very important is a road loss of third ranked Usak (3-2) against eighth ranked Anadolu Efes (3-2) on Saturday night. Visiting Usak was defeated by Anadolu Efes in a tough game in Istanbul 71-79. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Usak. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Usak won third quarter 27-24. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Anadolu Efes won last quarter 19-12. Usak was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. The former international power forward Semih Erden (211-86) orchestrated the victory by scoring 21 points and 8 rebounds. Croatian-Bosnian guard Zoran Planinic (198-82, agency: XL Basketball Agency) contributed with 17 points, 5 assists and 5 steals for the winners. Anadolu Efes' coach Oktay Mahmudi allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American power forward Elijah Holman (208-89, college: Detroit Mercy) answered with 14 points and 8 rebounds and the other American import forward Justin Carter (193-87, college: Creighton, agency: Pro Partner Sports Management) added 10 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Usak. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Anadolu Efes have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Usak. Anadolu Efes will play against higher ranked TED Kolejliler (#4) in Ankara in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Usak will play at home against Besiktas and hopes to get back on the winning track.
