Regular Season Round 7: Krofdorf/Gleib. - Gruenberg 84-79

The game between second ranked Baskets Grunberg (4-3) and fifth ranked Krofdorf/Gleib. (4-3) was the most important one in the last round on Sunday night. Baskets Grunberg was defeated by Krofdorf/Gleib. in a tough game in Giessen 79-84. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Baskets Grunberg. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Baskets Grunberg won fourth quarter 26-22. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Baskets Grunberg 45-22 including a 32-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great evening for American center Mara Hjelle (187-89, college: Wayne St., NE) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 17 rebounds. The former international power forward Yvonne Weber (195-74, college: Washington) helped adding 17 points and 7 rebounds. Four Krofdorf/Gleib. players scored in double figures. At the losing side guard Isabell Meinhart (176-94) responded with 19 points and Natascha Heuser scored 19 points. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Krofdorf/Gleib. moved-up to third place in North, which they share with Goettingen and Gruenberg. Krofdorf/Gleib. is looking forward to face Goettingen (#4) on the road in the next round. Baskets Grunberg will play against TG Neuss and is hoping to win this game.
