Bottom-ranked Bayer Giants is still unable to win any game. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their eighth consecutive match to fifth ranked Science City Jena (6-2) 111-76 on Sunday evening. The game without a history. Science City Jena led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Bayer Giants' 22 and made 23-of-28 free shots (82.1 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Bayer Giants 51-25 including a 36-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. Science City Jena looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. American forward Dennis Tinnon (203-88, college: Marshall, agency: Pro Partner Sports Management) nailed a double-double by scoring 18 points and 14 rebounds for the winning side and guard Kevin Schaffartzik (188-88, college: Sam Houston St., agency: LUMANI 10.7) accounted for 29 points. Five Science City Jena players scored in double figures. Swingman Matthias Goddek (196-86) came up with 19 points and forward Ben Spoeler (206-88) added 13 points and 9 rebounds respectively for Bayer Giants in the defeat. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Science City Jena have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to second place, which they share with 3 other teams. Newly promoted Bayer Giants still closes the standings with eight games lost. Science City Jena will meet at home Crailsheim Merlins (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Bayer Giants will play against NBC (#10) in Nurnberg and hope to get finally their first victory.
