Regular Season Round 6: Mersin - Tarsus Bld 91-84

Another interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Mersin: Mersin (#7) and Tarsus Bld (#12). Mersin (4-2) won against visiting Tarsus Bld (1-5) 91-84. Tarsus Bld trailed by 14 points after 3 quarters before a 24-17 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 84-91 at the end of the game. Mersin shot the lights out from three sinking 13 long-distance shots on high 54.2 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. It was a good game for American point guard Matee Ajavon (170-86, college: Rutgers, agency: LBM Management) who led her team to a victory with 33 points (!!!) (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field). Croatian swingman Ana Lelas (183-83) contributed with 21 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. American point guard Renee Montgomery (170-86, college: Connecticut, agency: LBM Management) replied with 31 points (went 11 for 11 at the free throw line !!!) and her fellow American import Delisha Milton-Jones (186-74, college: Florida, agency: Josep and Nicolas) added 12 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists in the effort for Tarsus Bld. Four Tarsus Bld players scored in double figures. Mersin have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place, which they share with 4 other teams. Loser Tarsus Bld dropped to the eleventh position with five games lost. Mersin will face league's second-placed Kayseri on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Tarsus Bld will play against Antakya (#6) and hope to win that game.
