Regular Season Round 6: Azovmash - Cherkasy 80-73

Not a big story in a game in Mariupol where 13th ranked Cherkasy (1-5) was defeated by fourth ranked Azovmash (4-1) 80-73 on Wednesday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Cherkasy won third quarter 21-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Azovmash won last quarter 26-20. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was Australian-Dutch power forward Daniel Kickert (208-83, college: St.Mary's, CA) who scored 18 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). American power forward Coleman Collins (207-86, college: Virginia Tech, agency: Beo Basket) chipped in 14 points and 7 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American point guard Ronald Moore (183-88, college: Siena) who recorded 14 points and 7 assists and his fellow American import point guard Terry Smith (185-86, college: Mercyhurst) added 16 points respectively. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Azovmash have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place. Cherkasy lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the thirteenth position with five games lost. Azovmash will meet Halychyna (#9) in the next round where they are favorite. Cherkasy will play against BC Odessa (#5) and hope to win that game.
