Regular Season Round 4: Alges - Vitoria SC 78-77

There was a change at the LPB leadership position after last games. Round 4 most important game was a defeat of league's leader Vitoria SC (3-1). They were edged by tenth ranked Alges (2-2) 78-77 on Saturday night. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Vitoria SC. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Vitoria SC won third quarter 21-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Alges made 22-of-24 free shots (91.7 percent) during the game. Worth to mention a great performance of international Rui Quintino (194-83) who helped to win the game recording 15 points and 9 rebounds and naturalized Guinea-Bissau forward Josimar Cardoso (201-87) who added 17 points during the contest. At the losing side international forward Joao Balseiro (192-87) responded with 16 points and 5 rebounds and the former international forward Paulo Cunha (200-80) scored 11 points and 9 rebounds. Four Alges and five Vitoria SC players scored in double figures. Alges moved-up to fourth place, which they share with 6 other teams. Vitoria SC at the other side still keeps top position with one game lost. They were joined at the leadership position by Benfica who have the same record. Vitoria SC will play next round against strong Galitos-Tley trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Alges will try to continue on its current victory against seventh ranked Sampaense in Coimbra.
