Regular Season Round 5: SoyuzBasket - Kirovograd 73-71

The most surprising game was the first loss of undefeated Kirovograd (3-1) in Shahtarsk on Sunday night. Visitors were edged by leader SoyuzBasket (3-0) 73-71. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Kirovograd. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Kirovograd won third quarter 24-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. SoyuzBasket dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Kirovograd's 30. Forward Aleksander Korovyakov (200-81) orchestrated the victory by scoring 17 points and 9 rebounds. Guard Vladislav Tonchenko (185-89) contributed with 7 points and 10 assists for the winners. SoyuzBasket's coach Vladimir Bryaukhavetshy used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. American point guard DeAndre Mays (188-87, college: Youngstown St., agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) answered with 23 points and 7 assists and the other American import forward Quintrell Thomas (203-90, college: UNLV, agency: Hart Sports Mngm) added 13 points and 10 rebounds in the effort for Kirovograd. SoyuzBasket have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to third place, which they share with BK Donetsk-2. Kirovograd at the other side dropped to the fifth position with one game lost. They share it with NEMO Odessa and Avangard. SoyuzBasket is looking forward to face BK Donetsk-2 (#3) on the road in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Kirovograd will play against Musson and is hoping to win this game.
