Regular Season Round 7: Tofas - Trabzonspor 83-80

A very interesting game took place in Bursa. It ended with only three-point defeat on the road of 14th ranked Trabzonspor (1-6) to ninth ranked Tofas (4-3) 83-80 on Saturday evening. Host team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Trabzonspor won third quarter 22-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Tofas made 16-of-21 charity shots (76.2 percent) during the game. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of international swingman Serhat Cetin (197-86) who helped to win the game recording 16 points and 6 assists. American guard Marcus Denmon (190-90, college: Missouri) contributed with 16 points for the winners. Tofas' coach Ahmet Caki allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American forward Jack Cooley (206-91, college: Notre Dame) answered with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 16 rebounds and international guard Can Mutaf (190-91) added 17 points and 5 assists in the effort for Trabzonspor. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Tofas moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Galatasaray. Newly promoted Trabzonspor dropped to the bottom position with six games lost. Tofas' next round opponent will be higher ranked Usak (#4) on the road and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Trabzonspor will play against Turk Telekom (#11) and hope to win that game.
