The game between closely ranked teams ended with eighth ranked Herner TC's (5-4) road victory over 9th ranked Eisvogel Freiburg (3-6) 78-70 on Saturday. Eisvogel Freiburg trailed by 14 points after 3 quarters before a 27-21 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 70-78 at the end of the game. They outrebounded Eisvogel Freiburg 40-25 including 25 on the defensive glass. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Herner TC made 7 blocks. American point guard Quenese Davis (177-88, college: San Diego St.) stepped up and scored 17 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals for the winners and the former international center Lisa Koop (197-85, college: Winthrop) chipped in 12 points and 12 rebounds. Five Herner TC players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American power forward Mariesa Greene (183-87, college: Barry) with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 13 rebounds and the other American import swingman Brooque Williams (175-89, college: California, PA) scored 20 points. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Herner TC. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Marburg and Rhein MB. Loser Eisvogel Freiburg keeps the ninth position with six games lost. They share it with Oberhausen and Donau-Ries. Herner TC will meet at home Rhein Main Baskets (#6) in the next round. Eisvogel Freiburg will play against ChemCats Chemnitz and hope to secure a win.
