The game between closely ranked teams ended with eighth ranked Herner TC's (5-4) road victory over 9th ranked Eisvogel Freiburg (3-6) 78-70 on Saturday. Eisvogel Freiburg trailed by 14 points after 3 quarters before a 27-21 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 70-78 at the end of the game. They outrebounded Eisvogel Freiburg 40-25 including 25 on the defensive glass. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Herner TC made 7 blocks. American point guard Quenese Davis (177-88, college: San Diego St.) stepped up and scored 17 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals for the winners and the former international center Lisa Koop (197-85, college: Winthrop) chipped in 12 points and 12 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Herner TC. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Marburg and Rhein MB. Loser Eisvogel Freiburg keeps the ninth position with six games lost. They share it with Oberhausen and Donau-Ries. Herner TC will meet at home Rhein Main Baskets (#6) in the next round. Eisvogel Freiburg will play against ChemCats Chemnitz and hope to secure a win.
