Regular Season Round 5: Ovarense - Lusitania 66-69

Lusitania can celebrate their first win this season after three consecutive loses. The victory is especially important as they edged much higher ranked Ovarense (2-3)on the road game in Ovarense 69-66 on Sunday. Ovarense cut a 13-point halftime deficit to three at the end of the game. Lusitania forced 21 Ovarense turnovers. Strangely Ovarense outrebounded Lusitania 40-25 including 28 on the defensive glass. American point guard Jaime Smith (191-89, college: Al.-Huntsville) stepped up and scored 23 points and 8 assists for the winners and his fellow American import Zane Campbell (203-87, college: Al.-Huntsville) chipped in 18 points and 8 rebounds. Four Lusitania players scored in double figures. Spanish power forward Sergi Coll (204-82) responded with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and the former international forward Miguel Miranda (205-78, agency: Dynamics Global Management) produced a double-double by scoring 15 points and 12 rebounds. Lusitania (1-3) left bottom position moving up to eleventh place. Loser Ovarense keeps the seventh position with three games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Lusitania will meet at home league's leader Vitoria SC in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Ovarense will play against CAB Madeira (#3) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
