Regular Season Round 9: Saarlouis - Oberhausen 48-55

Date: November 24, 2013
We should mention about the upset which took place in Saarlouis, where higher ranked TV Saarlouis Royals (4-5) lost at home to eleventh ranked Oberhausen (3-6) 48-55 on Sunday. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of TV Saarlouis Royals. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But TV Saarlouis Royals won third quarter 18-10. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Fijian guard Valerie Nainima (168-86, college: S.Carolina) stepped up and scored 18 points and 7 rebounds for the winners and the former international Birte Thimm (180-87) chipped in 12 points and 9 rebounds. Oberhausen's coach Katja Zberch used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. The best for the losing side was American guard Brittany Kennedy (170, college: Florida Gulf Coast) with 15 points and 5 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) and the other American import swingman Kayla Tetschlag (182-89, college: Green Bay) scored 11 points and 9 rebounds. Oberhausen moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Freiburg and Donau-Ries. Newly promoted TV Saarlouis Royals dropped to the seventh position with five games lost. They share it with Osnabruck. Oberhausen will meet at home bottom-ranked Don Bosco Bamberg (#12) in the next round. TV Saarlouis Royals will play against the league's leader TSV 1880 Wasserburg (#1) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
