Regular Season Round 9: Viernheim - Mainz 61-72

An interesting game was played in Viernheim where ASC Theresianum Mainz (#6) beat host TSV Amicitia (#5) 72-61 on Sunday evening. The game was mostly controlled by ASC Theresianum Mainz. TSV Amicitia managed to win second period 20-10. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. ASC Theresianum Mainz forced 23 TSV Amicitia turnovers. Strangely TSV Amicitia outrebounded ASC Theresianum Mainz 36-23 including 21 on the defensive glass. Bulgarian guard Gergana Georgieva (180-87) stepped up and scored 23 points and 8 rebounds for the winners and forward Lilian Koch (180-90) chipped in 12 points and 4 assists. ASC Theresianum Mainz's coach Alexander Schoch used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was American point guard Jennifer Shinall (160, college: Connecticut Coll.) with 21 points and 4 steals and the other American import forward Alysa Horn (182-90, college: Alaska-Anch.) scored 17 points and 6 rebounds. ASC Theresianum Mainz (5-4) moved-up to third place in South, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser TSV Amicitia dropped to the seventh position with five games lost. They share it with Sandhausen. ASC Theresianum Mainz will meet at home Fellbach (#10) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. TSV Amicitia will play against the league's leader Gruner Stern Keltern and hope to secure a win.
