Regular Season Round 11: ALBA - Bremerhaven 79-85

Date: November 30, 2013
There was an upset when higher ranked ALBA Berlin (6-4) was defeated at home by fourteenth ranked Eisbaeren Bremerhaven (4-8) 85-79 on Saturday. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 28-15. But ALBA Berlin won second period 25-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Eisbaeren Bremerhaven made 16-of-20 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. They also forced 21 ALBA Berlin turnovers. Strangely ALBA Berlin outrebounded Eisbaeren Bremerhaven 36-22 including a 28-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American point guard Darius Adams (182-89, college: Indianapolis, agency: Three Eye Sports) who scored 18 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. His fellow American import guard Anthony Smith (196-86, college: Liberty) chipped in 13 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. American-Polish point guard David Logan (185-82, college: Indianapolis) produced 14 points and FYR Macedonian guard Vojdan Stojanovski (194-87, agency: Beo Basket) added 16 points (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) respectively for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players saving starting five for next games. Eisbaeren Bremerhaven moved-up to thirteenth place, which they share with Vechta. Loser ALBA Berlin keeps the seventh position with four games lost. Eisbaeren Bremerhaven will face bottom-ranked Walter Tigers (#18) in Tuebingen in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game.
