There was no surprise in Akdeniz where 14th ranked Mersin (1-7) was defeated by sixth ranked Anadolu Efes (6-2) 81-76. The guests were ahead by 1 point but lost the second period ending it with a 1-point deficit before their 22-16 run, which allowed them to win the game. The winners were led by the former international power forward Semih Erden (211-86) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds and international Kerem Gonlum (208-77) supported him with 13 points and 8 rebounds. Even 27 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists by American-Lebanese swingman Antwain Barbour (196-82, college: Kentucky, agency: Three Eye Sports) did not help to save the game for Mersin. Naturalized American forward Ali Karadeniz (203-80, college: Arizona) added 17 points and 8 rebounds for the hosts. Four Mersin players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Anadolu Efes have an impressive six-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with 4 other teams. Mersin lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the fourteenth position with seven games lost. Anadolu Efes' next round opponent will be higher ranked Royal Hali in Gaziantep. Mersin will play on the road against Besiktas (#10) in Istanbul and hope to win that game.
