Regular Season Round 13: Bayer Giants - Kirchheim 87-78

Bottom-ranked Bayer Giants managed to get a second victory on Saturday night. This time newly promoted Bayer Giants won against fourth-ranked Kirchheim Knights in Leverkusen 87-78. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Kirchheim Knights. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Kirchheim Knights won third quarter 18-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Kirchheim Knights 37-25 including 31 on the defensive glass. Bayer Giants looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. American John Eggleston (203-88, college: Pennsylvania) fired a double-double by scoring 16 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners. His fellow American import guard Marc Sonnen (190-90, college: N.Iowa) chipped in a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds. Five Bayer Giants players scored in double figures. American Benjamin Beran (201-84, college: S.Dakota St.) produced 26 points and 8 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) and naturalized Serbian guard Radivoj Tomasevic (182-78) added 11 points and 4 assists respectively for lost side. Bayer Giants (2-11) moved-up to fifteenth place, which they share with Cuxhaven. Loser Kirchheim Knights dropped to the fifth position with five games lost. They share it with Chemnitz and Crailsheim. Bayer Giants will meet higher ranked Finke Baskets (#12) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Kirchheim Knights will play against Cuxhaven BasCats (#16) and hope to secure a win.
