Regular Season Round 9: Chernomorets - Levski Sofia 65-85
Date: December 14, 2013
Bottom-ranked Chernomorets (0-8) is still winless. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their eighth consecutive match to fourth ranked Levski Sofia (6-2) 85-65. The game was mostly controlled by Levski Sofia. Chernomorets was better in fourth quarter 24-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Levski Sofia made 16-of-21 charity shots (76.2 percent) during the game. Levski Sofia outrebounded Chernomorets 40-28 including a 31-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. Chernomorets was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. American forward Jumaine Jones (202-79, college: Georgia) nailed a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds for the winning side and international Pavel Ivanov (200-88, agency: Interperformances) accounted for 17 points and 6 rebounds. Four Levski Sofia players scored in double figures. Montenegrin center Novak Popovic (207-81) came up with 18 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists and forward Emil Binev (199-91) added 13 points respectively for Chernomorets in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Levski Sofia moved-up to second place, which they share with Cherno More and Balkan. Chernomorets at the other side still closes the standings with eight games lost. Levski Sofia will play against Beroe (#8) in Stara Zagora in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Chernomorets will play at home against Rilski and hopes to get finally their first victory.
