Rather expected game when 6th ranked Dnepr (6-4) was smashed by fourth ranked Avantazh-Politekhnik (7-1) in Kharkov 91-60 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Avantazh-Politekhnik. Dnepr managed to win second period 14-12. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Avantazh-Politekhnik dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Dnepr's 40. They outrebounded Dnepr 50-27 including a 32-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. Avantazh-Politekhnik looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by Dnepr's players. Five Avantazh-Politekhnik players scored in double figures. Even 12 points by Vladyslav Smyrnov (190-94) did not help to save the game for Dnepr. Forward Oleksandr Tarasenko (199-96) added 6 points and 8 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Avantazh-Politekhnik have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Avangard. Newly promoted Dnepr keeps the sixth position with four games lost. Avantazh-Politekhnik will meet at home VolinBasket (#10) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Dnepr will play against Avangard (#4) in Kyiv and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
