Regular Season Round 13: Dresden - Leipzig 103-98

The game between Top Four teams took place in Dresden. First ranked host Dresden (11-2) defeated 3rd placed USC Leipzig (8-5) 103-98. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of USC Leipzig. It looked good early as USC Leipzig took an 5-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Dresden had a 33-20 second period charge getting the lead and USC Leipzig was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 98-103. Dresden shot the lights out from three nailing 14 long-distance shots on high 51.9 percentage. Worth to mention a great performance of American Andrew Jones (191-83, college: Miles) who helped to win the game recording 38 points (!!!) and 7 assists. His fellow American import Damon Smith (200-88, college: Mary) contributed with 16 points and 5 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) for the winners. Jones is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Dresden's coach Thomas Krzywinski used entire bench in such tough game. Naturalized American forward Eric Vierneisel (201-85, college: California) answered with 25 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists and Czech center Jaroslav Tyrna (207-86, college: New Orleans) added 20 points and 8 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) in the effort for USC Leipzig. Four Dresden and five USC Leipzig players scored in double figures. Dresden maintains first place in Group South with 11-2 record, which they share with Hanau. USC Leipzig at the other side keeps the third position with five games lost. Dresden's next round opponent will be league's second-placed Hanau at home and it will be for sure the game of the week. USC Leipzig will play against Dragons Rhoendorf and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
