Sixteenth-ranked Cuxhaven BasCats (3-13) gave a tough game to fourth ranked Crailsheim Merlins (11-5). The visitors from Crailsheim managed to secure only six-point victory 107-101. However their fans expected much easier game. Cuxhaven BasCats were ahead by 9 points after three quarters before a 26-17 charge of Crailsheim Merlins, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time. They were better in overtime eventually winning that period 29-23. Crailsheim Merlins forced 19 Cuxhaven BasCats turnovers. Cuxhaven BasCats were plagued by 32 personal fouls down the stretch. The winners were led by American power forward Stevie Johnson (198-78, college: Iowa St.) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 31 points and 12 rebounds (on 14-of-16 shooting from the field) and the other American import point guard Carlos Medlock (183-87, college: E.Michigan) supported him with 25 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals. Even a double-double of 21 points, 5 rebounds and 10 assists by American guard Aaron Cook (186-83, college: Hartford) did not help to save the game for Cuxhaven BasCats. Nigerian-American forward P.J. Alawoya (203-88, college: McNeese St.) added 12 points and 10 rebounds for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Crailsheim Merlins have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place. Cuxhaven BasCats at the other side stay at the bottom position with 13 games lost. Crailsheim Merlins will play against league's second-placed Science City Jena at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Cuxhaven BasCats will play against NBC (#9) in Nurnberg and hope to get back on the winning track.
