Regular Season Round 15: Cherkasy - Azovmash 70-71

A very close game took place in Cherkasy between Azovmash and Cherkasy. Sixth ranked Azovmash (8-6) got a very close victory on the road over 10th ranked Cherkasy (5-8). Azovmash managed to escape with a 1-point win 71-70 on Wednesday evening. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Cherkasy won third quarter 19-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Azovmash made 23-of-24 free shots (95.8 percent) during the game. It was an exceptional evening for Australian-Dutch power forward Daniel Kickert (208-83, college: St.Mary's, CA) who led the winners and scored 23 points and 9 rebounds (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line). American swingman Marcus Ginyard (196-87, college: N.Carolina) accounted for 18 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side. Azovmash's coach Sergei Zavalin used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. American point guard Terry Smith (185-86, college: Mercyhurst) came up with 16 points and 5 rebounds and the other American import point guard Ronald Moore (183-88, college: Siena) added 12 points, 6 assists and 4 steals respectively for Cherkasy in the defeat. Four Cherkasy players scored in double figures. Azovmash maintains sixth place with 8-6 record. Loser Cherkasy keeps the tenth position with eight games lost. Azovmash will meet higher ranked Ferro-ZNTU (#5) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Cherkasy will play against DniproAzot (#13) and hope to secure a win.
