Regular Season Round 21: Zanavykas - Olimpas 95-89

Everything went according to plan in Sakiai where eighth ranked Zanavykas (10-9) beat 13th ranked Olimpas (6-14) 95-89 on Friday. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Zanavykas outrebounded Olimpas 44-24 including 18 on the offensive glass. The best player for the winners was center Vilius Sumskis (213-84, agency: Interperformances) who scored 24 points (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field). Guard Paulius Beliavicius (194-88) chipped in 11 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists. Zanavykas' coach Giedrius Zibenas used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. At the other side the best for losing team was French forward Dainius Vaitelis (200-86) who recorded 28 points and 7 rebounds and forward Ovidijus Kaminskas (195-91) added 18 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists respectively. Five Zanavykas and four Olimpas players scored in double figures. The victory was the third consecutive win for Zanavykas. They moved-up to seventh place. Loser Olimpas keeps the thirteenth position with 14 games lost. They share it with Nafta Univers.. Zanavykas will meet higher ranked Vilnius-MRU (#6) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Olimpas will play against the league's leader Mazeikiai (#1) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
