Regular Season Round 12: Rhein MB - Oberhausen 77-70
Date: January 11, 2014
There was no surprise in Langen where 10th ranked Oberhausen (4-8) was defeated by second ranked Rhein Main Baskets (8-4) 77-70. Rhein Main Baskets shot 26 for 39 from the free-throw line, while Oberhausen only scored nine points from the stripe. 27 personal fouls committed by Oberhausen helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The winners were led by American forward Denise Beliveau (180-89, college: New Hampshire) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 13 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists and the other American import guard Alyssa Karel (172-89, college: Wisconsin) supported her with 22 points. Even 13 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists by the former international point guard Lea Mersch (170-87) did not help to save the game for Oberhausen. American forward Monique Reid (185-90, college: Louisville) added 10 points and 13 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Oberhausen's coach Katja Zberch let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Rhein Main Baskets have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 8-4 record having just three points less than leader Wasserburg, which they share with Chemnitz. Oberhausen at the other side keeps the tenth place with eight games lost. Rhein Main Baskets' next round opponent will be bottom-ranked Don Bosco Bamberg (#12) on the road and are hoping to win another game. Oberhausen will play against Osnabruck and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
