Regular Season Round 14: Mersin Kurtulus - Sakarya 76-59

Everything went according to plan when third ranked Mersin Kurtulus (7-3) beat at home 5th ranked Sakarya (3-7) 76-59 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Mersin Kurtulus. Sakarya was better in fourth quarter 16-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Mersin Kurtulus dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Sakarya's 34. They outrebounded Sakarya 38-24 including 24 on the defensive glass. Mersin Kurtulus looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Sakarya's players. Worth to mention a great performance of Gizem Muruvet Uca (170-94) who helped to win the game recording 22 points and 6 assists and Ilkay Kocaslan who added 13 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. Mersin Kurtulus' coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to get some rest. The best for the losing side was Bahar Gokceri (-86) with 16 points and Burce Akkaya (-84) scored 11 points and 7 rebounds. Four Sakarya players scored in double figures. Newly promoted Mersin Kurtulus maintains third position in Group B with 7-3 record having just three points less than leader Edirne. Sakarya lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the fifth place with seven games lost. Mersin Kurtulus will face Izmir Eda (#7) on the road in the next round. Sakarya will play against Balcova in Izmir and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
