Regular Season Round 11: CAB Madeira - Lusitania 69-81

The game between third ranked CAB Madeira (6-4) and ninth ranked Lusitania (4-6) was the most important one in the last round on Sunday night. CAB Madeira was defeated by Lusitania in Funchal 81-69. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of CAB Madeira. The game was mostly controlled by Lusitania. CAB Madeira managed to win fourth quarter 19-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a great evening for American point guard Jaime Smith (191-89, college: Al.-Huntsville) who led his team to a victory scoring 29 points and 7 assists (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). His fellow American import center Marcel Momplaisir (205-81, college: Rhode Island, agency: Dynamics Global Management) helped adding 16 points and 13 rebounds. Lusitania's coach Nuno Barroso used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American forward Aaron Anderson (201-91, college: Kennesaw St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 22 rebounds and the former international swingman Fabio Lima (197-88) scored 14 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Four CAB Madeira players scored in double figures. Lusitania moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Galitos-Tley and Ovarense. CAB Madeira at the other side keeps the third position with four games lost. They share it with Barcelos. Lusitania is looking forward to face bottom-ranked Academica (#12) in Coimbra in the next round. CAB Madeira will play at home against the league's second-placed Vitoria SC (#2) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
