Regular Season Round 12: Donau-Ries - Herner 74-71

A very close game took place in Noerdlingen between Donau-Ries and Herner TC. Tenth ranked Donau-Ries (5-7) got a very close home victory over higher ranked Herner TC (6-6). Donau-Ries managed to escape with a 3-point win 74-71 on Sunday evening. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Herner TC won third quarter 19-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Donau-Ries made 16-of-18 free shots (88.9 percent) during the game. Strangely Herner TC outrebounded Donau-Ries 43-25 including 29 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of power forward Juliane Hoehne (189-83, college: IPFW) who helped to win the game recording 8 points and 10 rebounds and Bulgarian power forward Dimana Georgieva (188-88) who added 15 points during the contest. Four Donau-Ries players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was the former international center Lisa Koop (197-85, college: Winthrop) with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 16 rebounds and Finnish guard Henna Salomaa (176-89, college: Oakland) scored 24 points (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!). Herner TC's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Donau-Ries moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Freiburg. Loser Herner TC keeps the fifth position with six games lost. They share it with Saarlouis and Marburg. Donau-Ries will meet higher ranked ChemCats Chemnitz (#3) on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Herner TC will play against the league's leader TSV 1880 Wasserburg where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
