Regular Season Round 18: Magdeburg - Cuxhaven 73-85

Date: January 17, 2014
Bottom-ranked Cuxhaven BasCats managed to get a fourth victory, breaking the two-game losing streak. This time they won against fourteenth-ranked Magdeburg 85-73. The game was mostly controlled by Cuxhaven BasCats. Magdeburg was better in second period 23-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Nigerian-American forward P.J. Alawoya (203-88, college: McNeese St.) had a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and point guard Maximilian Kuhle (183-91) chipped in 17 points and 6 assists during the contest. Alawoya is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. The best for the losing side was naturalized American forward Jeramie Woods (195-91) with 11 points and 5 assists and American center Edward Seward (206-78, college: Norfolk St.) scored 15 points. Five Cuxhaven BasCats and four Magdeburg players scored in double figures. Magdeburg's coach Dimitris Polychroniadis rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Cuxhaven BasCats (4-14) moved-up to fifteenth place, which they share with Karlsruhe. Newly promoted Magdeburg keeps the fourteenth position with 13 games lost. Cuxhaven BasCats will play against higher ranked Kirchheim Knights (#7) at home in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Magdeburg will play against Crailsheim Merlins (#3) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
