Regular Season Round 15: Balcova - Sakarya 93-54

Everything could happen in Izmir at the game between two tied teams. Both sixth ranked Balcova and 5th ranked Sakarya had identical 3-7 record. This time Balcova used a home court advantage and outscored the opponent from Sakarya 93-54 on Saturday night. The game was mostly controlled by Balcova. Sakarya was better in second period 18-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Balcova dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Sakarya's 28. They outrebounded Sakarya 44-23 including a 31-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. Balcova looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Sakarya's players. Guard Sebnem Ozcelik (168-83) fired a double-double by scoring 20 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Bosnian center Aleksandra Begenisic (193-89) chipped in 28 points and 5 rebounds. Four Balcova players scored in double figures. Balcova's coach felt very confident using 11 players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Ozgenur Gun (-91) produced 17 points and 9 rebounds and guard Gizem Unluer (172-88) added 9 points respectively for lost side. Balcova (4-7) moved-up to fifth place in Group B. Sakarya lost their fifth game in a row. They dropped to the sixth position with eight games lost. Balcova will face league's second-placed Orman in Ankara in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Sakarya will play at home against Izmir Eda (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
