Regular Season Round 16: Urla BLD - Mersin Univ. 55-104

There was no surprise when 8th ranked Urla BLD (2-14) was outleveled by second ranked Mersin Univ. (12-4) in Izmir 104-55 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Mersin Univ.. Urla BLD was better in second period 20-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Mersin Univ. dominated down low during the game scoring 72 of its points in the paint compared to Urla BLD's 44. Mersin Univ. forced 30 Urla BLD turnovers and outrebounded them 45-14 including a 18-2 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 36 assists comparing to just 4 passes made by Urla BLD's players. It was a very good performance for center Kubra Dicle (187-92) who helped to win the game recording 19 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. Gizem Kumandanoglu (-94) contributed with 15 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Five Mersin Univ. players scored in double figures. Hulya Cakici (-88) replied with 30 points and Sumeyya Ozcan added 13 points in the effort for Urla BLD. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Mersin Univ. keeps a position of Group C leader, which they share with Yakin Dogu and Mulkiye. Newly promoted Urla BLD keeps the eighth place with 14 games lost. Mersin Univ. will face Bursa BSB (#5) at home in the next round. Urla BLD will play against Nigde Turk Telekom and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
