Regular Season Round 14: Halle - Herner 65-78

There was a small surprise when seventh ranked Herner TC (7-7) defeated on the road one of their biggest challengers SV Halle Lions (7-7) 78-65. SV Halle Lions were ahead by 3 points at the halftime before a 43-27 second half run of Herner TC. They made 17-of-22 charity shots (77.3 percent) during the game. They also forced 22 SV Halle Lions turnovers. American point guard Quenese Davis (177-88, college: San Diego St.) orchestrated the victory by scoring 18 points and 8 rebounds. The other American import forward Hannah Tuomi (185-89, college: Vanderbilt) contributed with 7 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Herner TC's coach Marek Piotrowski allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Forward Laura Hebecker (181-93) replied with 18 points and 5 rebounds and the former international power forward Katharina Fikiel (194-87) added 12 points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks in the effort for SV Halle Lions. Herner TC moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Halle and Saarlouis. SV Halle Lions lost fourth consecutive game. Herner TC's next round opponent will be higher ranked BC Pharmaserv Marburg (#4) at home and it may be quite challenging game. SV Halle Lions will play against ChemCats Chemnitz and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
