Regular Season Round 14: Sandhausen - Mainz 79-82

Important game to mention about took place in Sandhausen. Sixth ranked ASC Theresianum Mainz (7-7) saved a 3-point victory on the road edging 8th ranked TG 1889 Sandhausen (5-9) 82-79 on Saturday evening. It looked good early as TG 1889 Sandhausen took an 4-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then ASC Theresianum Mainz had a 22-12 second period charge getting the lead and TG 1889 Sandhausen was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 79-82. ASC Theresianum Mainz made 32-of-40 charity shots (80.0 percent) during the game. They also forced 20 TG 1889 Sandhausen turnovers. TG 1889 Sandhausen was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. Bulgarian guard Gergana Georgieva (180-87) notched a double-double by scoring 23 points and 12 rebounds (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!) to lead the effort and forward Eva Marschall (180-91) supported her with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Five ASC Theresianum Mainz players scored in double figures. Even 14 points and 9 rebounds by Canadian center Matteke Hutzler (188-88) did not help to save the game for TG 1889 Sandhausen. Power forward Simone Grunert-Baier (178-78) added 9 points and 8 rebounds for the hosts. TG 1889 Sandhausen's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. ASC Theresianum Mainz moved-up to fifth place in South, which they share with Wuerzburg. TG 1889 Sandhausen at the other side keeps the eighth position with nine games lost. ASC Theresianum Mainz will play against league's leader Gruner Stern Keltern at home in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. TG 1889 Sandhausen will play against Fellbach (#12) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
