Regular Season Round 16: Turk Telekom - Tofas 79-83
Date: January 27, 2014
Rather expected game in Ankara where 10th ranked Turk Telekom (6-10) was defeated by eighth ranked Tofas (8-8) 83-79 on Monday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Turk Telekom won third quarter 18-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Worth to mention a great performance of Nigerian power forward Chinemelu Elonu (206-87, college: Texas A&M) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) and the former international forward Evren Buker (195-85) who added 15 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists during the contest. Five Tofas players scored in double figures. At the losing side American swingman Joshua Shipp (196-86, college: UCLA) responded with 21 points and the former international center Cemal Nalga (213-87, agency: Beo Basket) scored 10 points and 9 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Tofas moved-up to seventh place, which they share with TED Kolejliler. Turk Telekom at the other side keeps the tenth position with ten games lost. Tofas will face league's leader Banvit BK in Balikesir in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Turk Telekom will play on the road against Royal Hali (#12) in Gaziantep and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
