Regular Season Round 17: Azovmash - Hoverla 90-69

Everything could happen in Mariupol at the game between two tied teams. Both seventh ranked Azovmash and 7th ranked Hoverla had identical 8-7 record. This time Azovmash used a home court advantage and outplayed the opponent from Frankivsk 90-69 on Wednesday night. The hosts trailed by 4 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 16-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 90-69. Azovmash made 16-of-18 free shots (88.9 percent) during the game. Azovmash outrebounded Hoverla 37-24 including a 26-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. International forward Kyryl Natyazhko (207-90, college: Arizona, agency: Beo Basket) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds for the winners and Australian-Dutch power forward Daniel Kickert (208-83, college: St.Mary's, CA) chipped in 19 points. Five Azovmash players scored in double figures. American point guard Eugene Lawrence (184-86, college: St.John's, agency: Two Points) responded with 22 points and 5 assists and the other American import power forward Travis Peterson (208-85, college: Samford) scored 14 points and 6 rebounds. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Azovmash (9-7) moved-up to sixth place. Loser Hoverla dropped to the eighth position with eight games lost. Azovmash will meet at home higher ranked Budivelnyk (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Hoverla will play against BC Kyiv (#10) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
