Regular Season Round 19: Utena - Ruta-Univ. 86-56

Bottom-ranked Ruta-Univ. is still unable to win any game. This time they lost on the road their 19th consecutive match to sixth ranked Utena (7-13) 86-56 on Friday evening. The game was mostly controlled by Utena. Ruta-Univ. managed to win fourth quarter 16-11. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Utena dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Ruta-Univ.'s 26. They outrebounded Ruta-Univ. 49-30 including a 36-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was an exceptional evening for international center Kristina Alminaite (205-90) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 13 rebounds. Forward Monika Aleksaite (178-93) accounted for 11 points and 13 rebounds for the winning side. Five Utena players scored in double figures. Coach Gintaras Kruckauskas's team controlled all game and the coach could let to play 10 players and allowed the starting five to rest. American guard Indre Mikelenaite (175, college: Florida Southern) came up with 17 points and forward Silvija Kuodiene (180-81) added 11 points and 7 rebounds respectively for Ruta-Univ. in the defeat. The victory was the third consecutive win for Utena. They maintain sixth place with 7-13 record. Ruta-Univ. lost their nineteenth game in a row. They still close the standings. Utena will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Ruta-Univ. will play against the league's leader Kibirkstis-VICI (#1) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
