Regular Season Round 17: Alba Iulia - Rapid 77-52

There was no surprise when 11th ranked Rapid (5-12) was outplayed on the road by second ranked Alba Iulia (15-1) 77-52. It looked good early as Rapid took an 2-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Alba Iulia had a 28-14 second period charge getting the lead and Rapid was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 52-77. Alba Iulia made 18-of-21 charity shots (85.7 percent) during the game. They also forced 23 Rapid turnovers and outrebounded them 40-28 including 30 on the defensive glass. Alba Iulia players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. Bosnian-Serbian guard Sasa Cadjo (178-89) nailed 18 points and 5 rebounds for the winning side and the former international forward Alexandra Uiuiu (183-89) accounted for 11 points and 4 assists. Four Alba Iulia players scored in double figures. The former international guard Florina Diaconu (170-82) came up with 20 points and 8 rebounds and guard Monica Nicolaescu (167-83) added 2 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists respectively for Rapid in the defeat. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Alba Iulia have an impressive series of thirteen victories in a row. They used an opportunity after ICIM Arad lost their game and moved up joining them at the top position. Rapid at the other side keeps the eleventh place with 12 games lost. Alba Iulia will play against Oradea (#10) in Oradea in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Rapid will play at home against the league's leader ICIM Arad and hopes to get back on the winning track.
