Date: February 1, 2014
Seventh ranked Brasov (9-7) crushed at home 12th ranked Cluj Napoca (2-15) by 43 points 89-46, which is the biggest margin this round. The game was mostly controlled by Brasov. Cluj Napoca was better in second period 13-12. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Brasov dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Cluj Napoca's 30 and made 16-of-17 charity shots (94.1 percent) during the game. Brasov forced 25 Cluj Napoca turnovers and outrebounded them 45-25 including 16 on the offensive glass. American forward Carla Bartee (182-85, college: Mississippi) nailed a double-double by scoring 15 points and 19 rebounds for the winning side and Bosnian point guard Zdenka Kovacevic (170-87) accounted for 17 points and 5 assists. Four Brasov players scored in double figures. The former international center Florina Pascalau (196-82) came up with 16 points and 7 rebounds and center Andreea Pop (180-90) added 11 points respectively for Cluj Napoca in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Brasov moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Satu Mare. Cluj Napoca lost tenth consecutive game. They keep the twelfth position with 15 games lost. Brasov will play against Timisoara (#9) at home in the next round. Cluj Napoca will play against Sf.Gheorghe and hopes to get back on the winning track.
