No shocking result in a game when second ranked Crailsheim Merlins (15-5) smashed at home 5th ranked MLP Academics Heidelberg (11-9) 96-72. The game without a history. Crailsheim Merlins led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to MLP Academics Heidelberg's 30. They outrebounded MLP Academics Heidelberg 47-31 including 16 on the offensive glass. Crailsheim Merlins players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by MLP Academics Heidelberg's players. The winners were led by naturalized American forward Jonathan Moore (203-82, college: N.C.Central) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 15 points and 14 rebounds and center Andreas Kronhardt (205-89) supported him with 13 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Even 26 points and 8 rebounds by American swingman Shy Ely (194-87, college: Evansville) did not help to save the game for MLP Academics Heidelberg. His fellow American import point guard Jay Threatt (180-89, college: Delaware St., agency: IBS) added 11 points and 7 assists for the guests. Five Crailsheim Merlins and four MLP Academics Heidelberg players scored in double figures. Crailsheim Merlins have an impressive eight-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 15-5 record having just two points less than leader Goettingen. MLP Academics Heidelberg at the other side dropped to the seventh place with nine games lost. Crailsheim Merlins' next round opponent will be BV Chemnitz 99 (#5) on the road. MLP Academics Heidelberg will play against BG Karlsruhe and hope to win that game.
