There was an upset in Frankfurt where second-ranked Dresden (12-5) was edged by eighth ranked Fraport Skyliners II (8-9) 76-73 on Sunday. The hosts trailed by 1 point at the halftime before their 39-35 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Fraport Skyliners II made 22-of-29 free shots (75.9 percent) during the game. Strangely Dresden outrebounded Fraport Skyliners II 38-23 including 29 on the defensive glass. Dresden was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was swingman Kevin Bright (196-92, college: Vanderbilt) who scored 27 points. Johannes Richter (206-93, agency: LUMANI 10.7) chipped in 13 points and 6 rebounds. American Damon Smith (200-88, college: Mary) produced a double-double by scoring 18 points and 15 rebounds and guard Philipp Lieser (194-87, college: Cent.Washington) added 16 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists respectively for the guests. Four Dresden players scored in double figures. Dresden's coach Thomas Krzywinski let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Fraport Skyliners II have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to sixth place in Group South, which they share with Langen and Licher Baeren. Loser Dresden keeps the second position with five games lost. Fraport Skyliners II will face higher ranked USC Leipzig (#3) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Dresden will play against TV 1862 Langen and hope to win that game.
