Regular Season Round 20: Jena - Bayer Giants 103-87

Date: February 2, 2014
There was no surprise when 13th ranked Bayer Giants (6-14) were defeated on the road by third ranked Science City Jena (14-6) 103-87. The game was mostly controlled by Science City Jena. Bayer Giants was better in third quarter 24-22. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Science City Jena dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Bayer Giants' 24. They outrebounded Bayer Giants 48-34 including 35 on the defensive glass. Science City Jena players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. The game was dominated by American players. The winners were led by forward Dennis Tinnon (203-88, college: Marshall, agency: Integrity SM) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 20 points and 14 rebounds and point guard Garrett Sim (185-90, college: Oregon) supported him with 21 points and 11 assists. Science City Jena's coach Bjoern Harmsen allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even a double-double of 15 points and 13 rebounds by John Eggleston (203-88, college: Pennsylvania) did not help to save the game for Bayer Giants. Guard Marc Sonnen (190-90, college: N.Iowa) added 23 points for the guests. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Science City Jena maintains third position with 14-6 record having just three points less than leader Goettingen. Newly promoted Bayer Giants keep the thirteenth place with 14 games lost. Science City Jena's next round opponent will be league's leader BG Goettingen on the road and it will be for sure the game of the week. Bayer Giants will play against Cuxhaven BasCats (#14) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
