Regular Season Round 17: Besiktas - Galatasaray 82-78

Very important is a road loss of second ranked Galatasaray (12-5) against ninth ranked Besiktas (8-9) on Monday night. Visiting Galatasaray was defeated by Besiktas in a tough game in Istanbul 78-82. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Galatasaray won third quarter 17-12. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Besiktas won last quarter 29-26. Bosnian center Kenan Bajramovic (205-81) orchestrated the victory by scoring 25 points and 7 rebounds. American point guard Doron Perkins (188-83, college: Santa Clara) contributed with 19 points and 4 assists for the winners. Puerto Rican point guard Carlos Arroyo (188-79, college: FIU, agency: Interperformances) answered with 21 points and Serbian Zoran Erceg (210-85) added 14 points in the effort for Galatasaray. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Besiktas moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Tofas and TED Kolejliler. Defending champion Galatasaray dropped to the third position with five games lost. They share it with Anadolu Efes. Besiktas will play against league's second-placed Fenerbahce Ulker in Istanbul in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Galatasaray will play at home against Aliaga and hopes to get back on the winning track.
