Regular Season Round 19: Mersin Univ. - Mulkiye 100-56

Round 19 in TKB2L means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Mersin where host Mersin Univ. (12-3) crushed league's leader Mulkiye (11-4) 100-56 on Wednesday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Mulkiye. It was a key game for the second position in Group C. The game without a history. Mersin Univ. led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Mulkiye's 18. Mersin Univ. forced 28 Mulkiye turnovers and outrebounded them 44-28 including 29 on the defensive glass. They shot the lights out from three sinking 14 long-distance shots on high 58.3 percentage. Mersin Univ. looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Mulkiye's players. Guard Ilknur Dumlu (176-89) fired 23 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Ukrainian center Elena Staschuk (192-85, agency: LBM Management) chipped in a double-double by scoring 18 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Mersin Univ. players scored in double figures. Dilek Topdemir (-92) produced 11 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and forward Ebru Unal (-88) added 16 points respectively for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Mersin Univ. maintains second place in Group C with 12-3 record behind leader Yakin Dogu. Newly promoted Mulkiye dropped to the third position with four games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Yakin Dogu. Mulkiye will play next round against Urla BLD trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Mersin Univ. will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game.
