Regular Season Round 20: Brose Bask. - Bremerhaven 78-74
Date: February 8, 2014
Very predictable result in Bamberg where third ranked Brose Baskets (16-3) beat 13th ranked Eisbaeren Bremerhaven (7-13) 78-74. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Eisbaeren Bremerhaven was ahead by 8 points after three quarters before a 23-11 charge of Brose Baskets, which allowed them to win the game. Brose Baskets shot 23 for 38 from the free-throw line, while Eisbaeren Bremerhaven only scored seven points from the stripe. 30 personal fouls committed by Eisbaeren Bremerhaven helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The winners were led by naturalized Slovakian point guard Anton Gavel (189-84, agency: Pro One Sports) who scored that evening 19 points and 6 assists and the former international forward Elias Harris (203-89, college: Gonzaga, agency: Priority Sports) supported him with 21 points and 5 rebounds. Brose Baskets' coach Chris Fleming allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Even 13 points and 9 rebounds by American power forward Devin Searcy (208-89, college: Dayton, agency: IBS) did not help to save the game for Eisbaeren Bremerhaven. Lithuanian Adas Juskevicius (194-89) added 11 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists for the guests. Four Brose Baskets and five Eisbaeren Bremerhaven players scored in double figures. Brose Baskets have an impressive six-game winning streak. Defending champion moved-up to second place. Eisbaeren Bremerhaven at the other side keeps the thirteenth position with 13 games lost. Brose Baskets' next round opponent will be bottom-ranked Walter Tigers (#18) in Tuebingen which should be an easy win for them. Eisbaeren Bremerhaven will play at home against ratiopharm Ulm (#7) and hope to win that game.
