Rather predictable result when fifth ranked Alges (8-6) defeated at home 9th ranked Lusitania (4-8) 82-76 on Saturday. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts trailed by 11 points at the halftime before their 44-27 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Alges made 20-of-26 free shots (76.9 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was international guard Antonio Pires (185-86) who scored 28 points (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). The former international forward Joao Santos (204-79, college: Nevada) chipped in 14 points and 5 rebounds. Alges' coach Andre Martins used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. American point guard Jaime Smith (191-89, college: Al.-Huntsville) produced 25 points and 6 assists and his fellow American import center Marcel Momplaisir (205-81, college: Rhode Island, agency: Dynamics Global Management) added 17 points and 12 rebounds respectively for the guests. Four Lusitania players scored in double figures. Alges have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to fourth place. Loser Lusitania dropped to the eleventh position with eight games lost. Alges will meet league's second-placed Vitoria SC in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Lusitania will play against Galitos-Tley (#8) and hope to secure a win.
