Very expected game when 11th ranked Gaz Metan (7-9) was defeated on the road by second ranked Ploiesti (13-4) 82-68 on Sunday. The game without a history. Ploiesti led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Gaz Metan's 32. Ploiesti looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Ghanian guard Alhaji Mohammed (192-81, college: Louisville, agency: Higher Vision Sports) stepped up and scored 29 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and Serbian guard Bojan Popovic (191-83) chipped in 8 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists. Ploiesti's coach Vladimir Arnautovic used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Serbian forward Slavisa Bogavac (200-80, agency: BeoExcell) responded with 13 points and 9 rebounds and American point guard Willie Kemp (188-87, college: Memphis, agency: KMG Sports Management) scored 13 points and 7 assists. Five Gaz Metan players scored in double figures. The victory was the third consecutive win for Ploiesti. Defending champion used an opportunity after CSU Sibiu lost their game and moved up joining them at the top position. Loser Gaz Metan dropped to the tenth place with nine games lost. Ploiesti will face Targu Mures (#5) on the road in the next round. Gaz Metan will play against Oradea (#3) and hope to win that game.
