Regular Season Round 16: Donau-Ries - Freiburg 73-77
Date: February 9, 2014
Everything could happen in Noerdlingen at the game between two tied teams. Both eighth ranked Eisvogel Freiburg and 9th ranked Donau-Ries had identical 6-9 record. But Donau-Ries were not able to use a home court advantage and lost to the opponent from Freiburg 77-73 on Sunday night. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Donau-Ries won third quarter 21-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Eisvogel Freiburg made 19-of-22 free shots (86.4 percent) during the game. They also forced 19 Donau-Ries turnovers. The winners were led by American swingman Brooque Williams (175-89, college: California, PA) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 20 points and 16 rebounds (made all of her eight free throws) and the other American import point guard Bianca Simmons (168, college: Mass.-Lowell) supported her with 21 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Even 21 points and 7 rebounds by American Morgan Henderson (185-88, college: San Diego) did not help to save the game for Donau-Ries. Belarusian point guard Alexandra Tarasava (170-88) added 12 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals for lost side. Donau-Ries' coach Tomas Holesovsky tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Eisvogel Freiburg (7-9) moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Saarlouis. Loser Donau-Ries keep the ninth position with ten games lost. Eisvogel Freiburg will meet at home league's leader TSV 1880 Wasserburg in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Donau-Ries will play against the league's second-placed Rhein Main Baskets (#2) having rather not much hope for a victory.
