Regular Season Round 19: Hoverla - Mykolaiv 71-83

There was a minor upset in Frankivsk where 8th ranked Hoverla (8-10) was defeated by eleventh ranked Mykolaiv (8-10) 83-71. It looked good early as Hoverla took an 3-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Mykolaiv had a 21-17 second period charge getting the lead and Hoverla was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 71-83. Mykolaiv players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of Latvian swingman Zanis Peiners (203-90) who helped to win the game recording 21 points and 4 assists. American forward Bill Clark (195-88, college: Duquesne) contributed with 17 points for the winners. Five Mykolaiv players scored in double figures. American forward Seamus Boxley (201-82, college: Portland St.) answered with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 12 rebounds and Zimbabwean-American forward Julian Mavunga (203-90, college: Miami, OH) added 16 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Hoverla. Hoverla's coach Evgeni Murzin rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Mykolaiv moved-up to ninth place, which they share with defeated Hoverla. Mykolaiv will play against bottom-ranked DniproAzot (#14) in Dniprodzerzhynsk in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Hoverla will play at home against the league's second-placed Khimik (#2) having rather not much hope for a victory.
