Regular Season Round 22: Magdeburg - Heidelberg 91-89
Date: February 14, 2014
A very interesting game took place in Magdeburg. It ended with only two-point defeat on the road of higher ranked MLP Academics Heidelberg (12-10) to fifteenth ranked Magdeburg (6-16) 91-89 on Friday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the guest team. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But MLP Academics Heidelberg won third quarter 26-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Americans were the main players on the court also this time. Worth to mention a great performance of point guard Lamar Morinia (183-81, college: MSU-Northern) who helped to win the game recording 21 points and 6 assists. Forward Leonard Washington (201-88, college: Wyoming, agency: Two Points) contributed with 14 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Swingman Shy Ely (194-87, college: Evansville) replied with 28 points and point guard Jay Threatt (180-89, college: Delaware St., agency: IBS) added 16 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for MLP Academics Heidelberg. Four MLP Academics Heidelberg players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Magdeburg moved-up to fourteenth place. MLP Academics Heidelberg at the other side keeps the sixth position with ten games lost. Magdeburg's next round opponent will be higher ranked Kirchheim Knights (#9) on the road and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
