Regular Season Round 22: Gotha - Chemnitz 88-79

Date: February 14, 2014
There was a small surprise when tenth ranked Oettinger Rockets Gotha (11-11) defeated at home 8th ranked BV Chemnitz 99 (12-10) 88-79. It looked good early as BV Chemnitz 99 took an 7-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Oettinger Rockets Gotha had a 24-16 second period charge getting the lead and BV Chemnitz 99 was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 79-88. 27 personal fouls committed by BV Chemnitz 99 helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The game was dominated by American players. It was a very good performance for point guard Gary Johnson (188-82, college: Cent.Florida) who helped to win the game recording 25 points, 5 assists and 4 steals (made all of his eight free throws). Guard Chase Griffin (188-83, college: Pepperdine) contributed with 26 points for the winners. Forward Brandon Robinson (198-89, college: Clayton St.) replied with 16 points and 6 rebounds and forward Trevor Noack (201-91, college: Belmont) added 13 points and 8 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) in the effort for BV Chemnitz 99. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Oettinger Rockets Gotha moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Kirchheim. BV Chemnitz 99 at the other side dropped to the sixth position with ten games lost. Oettinger Rockets Gotha's next round opponent will be league's leader BG Goettingen on the road and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
